During the first triennial renewal period the number of hours that must be completed will be phased in. For those renewing a New York massage license on or after January 1, 2012, you will need to complete one CE hour for each month you are licensed until your license expiration date.
Examples:

  • If your license is due for renewal in January 2012, you will be required to complete 1 CE hour.
  • If your license is due for renewal in June 2012, you will be required to complete 6 CE hours.
  • If your license is due for renewal in December 2013, you will be required to complete 24 CE hours.

For information regarding the specific number of hours you will need based on the month in which your license expires, visit New York State’s Board of Massage website at http://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/mt/mtceapplicantinfo.htm#chart1

How you obtain your hours may vary, but one option is through a sponsor of continuing education approved by the State Education Department. Keep in mind that only specific subject areas are acceptable continuing education for NY massage license renewal. The sponsor approval process is quite extensive and the Institute was the first home study continuing education provider to obtain approval. To learn what course topics are acceptable for continuing education in New York, visit the Institute’s New York Massage Therapy Continuing Education Requirements page.
