This practical continuing education course deconstructs common myths about the use of massage in cancer treatment. Focusing on the use of touch techniques to provide comfort and ameliorate the side effects of conventional cancer treatment, the course text also provides the most recent research, the use of bodywork techniques to strengthen the body during and after treatment and the importance of gathering detailed information about a client's medical history.

Recent research into the physiological effects of massage has strengthened the justification for its use in the treatment of soft-tissue pain and injury conditions. The course text presents a comprehensive and in-depth look at the physiological nature of these conditions and the massage treatments most effective for their relief. Providing validation for the role of massage in treating orthopedic conditions, the text also aims to help the therapist understand the relationship between the soft tissues to which techniques are applied and the overall orthopedic disorder affecting their clients.

Great info! I've always worried about DVTs in my practice, but never had very indepth training on them. I will be much, much more aware as I move forward, and the screening sheet is going to become part of my new-client paperwork. Thank you!

Thank you for this class. Much of the information learned 15 years ago in massage school is not valid. I appreciate the updated information and the evidence that supports the information. Evidence based material lends more credibility to the information and allows me to be confident that this information will not allow me to cause harm to my clients. I had been asking for this very class for years and it was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.

Loved this course! It was challenging but well worth the time and effort. The text was wonderful; well written and laid out and covered an enormous amount of information in a clear and concise way. The text will be a great source of reference that I'm sure to use frequently.

I found this course exceptionally through and practical. The variety of resources and approaches made it suitable for different learning styles. The inclusion of photos, drawings, exercises, and hints for practice were effective in reinforcing the materials, not to mention the DVD and companion website. The test was not very difficult and I could have completed it in a shorter time then the approximately 16 hours I spent on the course, but I was motivated to read and study more carefully.

I have been a professional massage therapist since 1999. This course was so educational. I will be honest, I thought it was going to be boring and dull, but it was so informative. I will be looking at my intakes much more carefully, especially when clients request deep tissue therapy.
